 , 2017</strong></p>\n<p>Visualizing the structures of biological molecular
  machines is an absolute requirement in order to understand their mechanis
 m. Cryo-EM is a key method for this visualization\, and due to the recent 
 technical developments it can provide refined atomic structures even for s
 tructure-based drug design. The symposium coincides with the Nobel Prize t
 hat has been awarded for the development of the cryo- EM and will present 
 the methodological progress as well as the applications to central biologi
 cal questions. It brings together world-leading experts\, Swedish research
 ers\, and industrial scientists to discuss ideas for further advancement i
 n this exciting and rapidly evolving field.</p>\n<p>The symposium is free

 sanne in Switzerland\, will be awarded the Nobel prize on December 10 toge
 ther with Joachim Frank and Richard Henderson\, for developing cryo-electr
 on microscopy for the high-resolution structure determination of biomolecu
 les in solution.</p>\n<p>Ume&aring\; University and the <a href='http://ww
 w.kbc.umu.se/english/ucem/' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer'>Ume&
 aring\; Core Facility for Electron Microscopy</a> (UCEM) has one of two cr
 yo-electron microscopes in Sweden.</p>\n<p>Hosts for the visit are Linda S
 andblad\, Director of UCEM and researcher at <a href='http://www.ucmr.umu.
 se/' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer'>UCMR</a>\, <a href='http://
 www.mims.umu.se/' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer'>MIMS</a> and t
 he Department of Microbiology\, and Lars-Anders Carlson\, researcher at <a
